Batman vs Superman Movie Review

Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice Movie Review
3.5 out of 5 Stars

I love superhero movies, both from DC and Marvel, so I was really looking forward to this one. And it was pretty good. But it seemed a little overwhelmed with details and it took quite a bit of time to set up all of those details. That being said, I actually really loved the ending. I think that this movie was overall a really great set up for other potentially amazing movies.

The acting was good- it certainly had some really great actors and actresses in it. And being someone from outside of the comic-book-reading community (I know... shameful) I thought that the characters fit in well with each other and how they interacted. I did get slightly confused when Lex called Superman's mom Martha, but then I realized that both his and Batman's moms were named that. Batman was the one character were I was slightly confused for a bit.... he just seemed even darker and more merciless (?) than what I was used to. Other than that, I have nothing else to say. They did good staying in their characters and bringing them to life.

I know that there are people who say the scoring wasn't that great and made the movie seem even broodier than it already is, but I actually really enjoyed it. In general, I am a huge fan of Han Zimmer, and I loved the music that he helped create in this movie. I though it fit well and was dramatic enough to bring home certain points of the story. Yes, it was dark music, but it was also a dark movie... fitting then right?

The only major thing I didn't like about this film was how long it was. The set up took ages.... and I know that all those details were necessary to make sure the content and extent of what was happening was clear, but I was still losing focus after awhile. At a certain point though, it does pick up and from that point on things are moving and moving spectacularly. Like I said, I loved the ending. I thought that it was really interesting and while a part of me wishes that Wonder Woman had been there sooner (as Wonder Woman), I think her role was played well and I am looking forward to the next DC movie. Which happens to be Suicide Squad. >:) I AM SO EXCITED FOR THAT ONE!

Back to this movie, 3.5 stars mostly because of the extremely long set up. I would still recommend seeing this though because I feel like it is going to be a cornerstone for many more movies to come, and there were some really great scenes in it.

HARRY POTTER EXCITEMENT

WE GET ANOTHER HARRY POTTER STORY TOMORROW!!!!!!
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child
By: JK Rowling, John Tiffany, and Jack Thorne
29056083

Releases: July 31, 2016
THAT IS TOMORROW

I will admit, I may have actually cried when I found out that they were publishing the script for the play. Because, sadly, I cannot afford to fly to London and see it in person. But now I can buy it and I will probably be up bright and early tomorrow to make sure that I get my hands on a copy asap!!!

From what I understand, this is sort of like book number 8, but not book number 8, because it is when Harry's kids are in school and he's working and it follows all of this post-war stuff. I super excited to get to see all of the characters again though, and all of their babies too!!!  **Squeals**

(I hope Scorpius and Rose are a thing, because Dramione never really happened :/ ......)

Tomorrow is going to be a big day for all of us muggles. July 31... any0ne else get the date? Hehe- it makes me smile. I hope you guys are just as excited for this book as I am!! Good luck tomorrow and may it be with all of us as we try to control the feels!

Cinderella Man Movie Review

Movie Review
Cinderella Man  (2005)
5 out of 5 Stars
This is one of my absolute favorite movies. Starring so many wonderful actors and actresses like Russell Crowe, Renee Zellweger, and Paul Giamatti, Cinderella Man is the true story of the boxer James Braddock living during the Great Depression. I originally saw this movies years ago back in school and have loved it ever since. Not only does the plot move at an appropriate tempo, but it is moving itself and masterfully put together. I cannot speak for its accuracy from any sort of personal or second-hand experience, but I have heard from others that it paints a very good picture of what people had to endure and how they lived. It is a reminder that we are so incredibly lucky today with everything that we have. For those looking at the cover to the left and thinking girly movie, you could not be more wrong. There are mostly boxing scenes, moments when the characters show what people had to do to make ends meet and the different ways that people lived to keep up appearances if they could.

Not only does it bear an incredible story, but it is done so well. The actors' work was phenomenal and they interacted seamlessly with each other. I'm not sure if it had been nominated or had won any awards, but I definitely would not be surprised if it had. The setting and script were amazing too. One of the moments that sticks to me the most is when Braddock was being interview and one of them asks, What do you fight for now? And is reply is, Milk. There were times when he was going to stop, lose a fight. But then thinking about his family and how he could lose his children made him push through when he probably should have stopped. The layout of the movie is done well too, showing the true "Cinderella" part of the story. He started rich and famous, but then the Depression hit and things got bad quickly. An opportunity comes around though and James Braddock is able to pull himself out of his situation and live better. We get to see all of this, along with other information at the end.

The story shown in this film is one of hope and endurance. James Braddock was a symbol for hope and second-chances at this time. Even now, we can take something from this movie: when things have been lost and you are at your worst, a second-chance will come around. Grab it, and look for better days. It may not be easy, but it is more than possible.

If I could, I would give this movie more than 5 stars.

Bristles by Donna Callea Review WITH SPOILERS

Bristles by Donna Callea
Review WITH SPOILERS
4 out of 5 Stars
This was a really interesting book; it was a kind of combination between magic and dystopian societies, but it was blended together extremely well. When it started out, it was almost point by point for Cinderella. Its her and her dad, then he marries a women with two brats, and then he dies and the girl is mistreated by her step-mother, and there's a rich prince charming. Not really unique, but as the plot developed more, there were some more depth and detail.

17797755The entire world was very diverse which was cool to read. There was a stark difference between the bleak drabness of Erba, Bristles home country, and the bright, colorful, and spiritual Fiss, her mother's native country. Erba was very technological and had a huge regard for class and proper positioning in society. Whereas Fiss is very natural and egalitarian and still functions just as well as Erba. There was something that confused me though: in Erba, there were iPad-ish devices that the students and rich used, but at the same time they didn't have cars, only coaches and they mentioned other older things. So it just seemed to be a mix of different time periods, so I couldn't get a good idea of the time period. However, I think that was supposed to be irrelevant, almost like this is all on a different planet.

A huge thing that I loved about this book was that the impossible was made possible. Several times, Bristles was put into a situation that seemed like there was no way out: I couldn't fabricate any sort of escape plan with the given background knowledge and it was almost depressing. But then, she would find a way to get past any boundaries in her way and get done what needed to be done. She is a very strong character and it was amazing to see her grow in confidence and bravery throughout the book, not to mention her skills. She starts as a little bug trapped under her mother's boot, but then grows to be much more than anyone's expectations.

Two little things left:
a) It was really easy to read. It was straightforward not extremely complicated.
b) I really love the idea of becoming one with a tree... I wish I could take a nap in a tree... I'll put that on my bucket list :)

Bellarke (The 100): A Ship in My Fleet

A Ship in My Fleet
Bellarke
From: The 100 by Kass Morgan
***I am not sure what I will be spoiling and/or from which books they could be from. Assume this whole post has spoilers***

Soooo..... where I'm at the the series (book 1), they aren't really a thing thing yet. But I'm a pro at shipping almost non-existent ships. There is backup for this one though! They had their kiss (one of the best parts) and they are sort of hovering around their feelings for each other. It kills me because this is one of those situations where they're both liking each other, but not saying anything because they're getting opposite signals from the other. Wrong signals, but still there. And they are going to be awesome once they happen in the series- because I have a feeling they will happen- and I will fully support it.

When I Started Shipping:
I am not entirely sure when I started shipping them, but I do. I think it may have been around the time that they were both walking around trying to find the medicine and they were talking about Earth stuff. Their previous misconceptions about personalities were knocked down and they learned that they had common ground between them. They seemed to get along well and then the kiss happened. So that kinda sealed the deal.

Favorite Cannon Moment:
That kiss!!! I approve I beyond approve. Approval can barely describe how happy it mad me and it makes me sound like a creep. But it was that moment when the pieces of their personalities clicked and I realized they'll be really good for each other. There were later moments too, when there wasn't anything actually happening, but it was their POVs and they were both just thinking about the other one. I thought those parts were really cute and adorable. It shows that neither of them are pretending or putting on a show.

Bellamy:
Not going to lie, I love how he is so protective. It comes from him needing to protect his sister, but it is totally a part of his personality and I can definitely see that spreading into a relationship with Clarke. Not only that, but he genuinely wants to take care of people and has a natural sense of leadership.

Clarke:
I feel really bad for Clarke. She has had a tough time with her parents, and then trying to make the whole Earth thing happen. But she needs someone to rely on and confide in, and Bellamy is a perfect fit for that. He is so similar to her, but at the same time is like the opposite half of her, so there is a balance between the two of them.

Bellarke:
Bellamy and Clarke are the kinds of people that are both independent, but they can work really well together and trust each other and be there for each other and make sure the correct decisions are made. Plus, he made Clarke feel better after her parents death, Wells's betrayal, being captive and exiled, etc. And she was able to get him to stop worrying about Octavia for a little while.

Overall, I would have to say that I enjoyed the first book more than this one. And it is not because this one it bad, only that so much was being explained and was happening in the first that I feel like this one is slightly lacking in those regards. I do think it makes up for it in character development though. We get to see how the characters have so many different sides in the different universes, and yet those sides are still a part of each of them in every universe. This book also explores some really cool dimensions. My favourite would have to be the underground of New York because I find that stuff so interesting and I think it had some of the more action-filled plot points in it. :)

I would definitely read this and continue on with the series. I think maybe by the end of the trilogy, this may end up being my least favourite of the three, but there are some major things that go on that you can't miss. And the ending is amazing, yet tormenting.

Things I Liked:
~The Conley romance. Not gonna lie, this weirded me out at first, but then as the book progresses, it made more and more sense and I love it. Not as much as I love Paul and Marguerite though... Again, there is great character development her for Conley that, at least for me, changes how I saw him.
~The deeper morality conflict. The initial conflict of entering and taking over somebody's body is definitely a big deal in the first book, but even more so here when we see more of how those actions have consequences on the other person's life when the traveler leaves. Especially with Marguerite. You will know what I mean when you finish...
~PAUL AND MARGUERITE!!!!!!!!
~Marguerite's character development was really different now that I think about it. It wasn't typical in that we see aspects of her in her alternate versions' selves, and then how they are also in the main character Marguerite's.

Review: Ignite Me

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
SPOILERY
Ignite Me
I know that these books are received usually in extremes: people either hate them or love them. I think all of them are completely amazing. There were five main things that made it stand out to me.....

1. The writing style. I can see how it annoys some people with the broken sentences and weird spacings but I think the it's brilliant. It adds another creative piece to the story that further emphasizes Juliette's way of thinking, helping connect the reader to her as a person. It makes reading the book even more interesting because it shows the instability and passion that lies behind the characters and story.

2. The whole thing flowed so well together and it was relatively easy to follow (yet not too easy). There were no awkward moments where you had no idea what was going on and you were completely lost. While there were a few surprising moments, it all still fit in with the plot line of the story. I almost want to say that it flowed too smoothly, because there was so much going on that I feel like the end got cut short. There was this major preparation and plotting, etc., etc.; and then like 3 chapters to finish off the Supreme Commander. But other than that, the whole thug worked really well and everything came together really nicely on the end. (Nicely being a relative word- there were a few upsetting parts)

3. How the characters developed. They also just evolved and grew so much and there were so many different aspects of them shown that changes the way you see them. I love these changes because not only if they show more of the characters, but they make them seem more human. Especially when it comes to Adam and Aaron. They just completely develop new traits that are exposed to the reader in the most perfect way. The way she further brings the characters to life in this book really connect the reader to them, which leads me to my next point....

4. The characters themselves. ***coughKenjicough*** Need I say more?

5. WARNETTE!!!!!!!!!!! I love this pairing and the book just made me soooooo happy!!!!!!!!!!!! :) :) :)

Unravel Me
Pure genius.

Unravel Me picks up right where Shatter Me left off, going right back into world of The Reestablishment and Juliette's story. If you are reading this you have probably read Shatter Me and don't need anymore encouragement to continue with the series. However, if for some reason there are doubts in your head that the series will stop being awesome, get rid of them.
Part of why I love this series is because it kept escalating throughout the second book. It is so original in this sense because there are so many major twists and additions to the plot that you are literally compelled to keep going.

I can guarantee that there is no other book like this. The plot is original, the characters are beautifully crafted, and the world leaves your head spinning. The only thing that some people may get caught up on or annoyed with is the writing style. Personally, I think it is remarkable that Tahereh Mafi was able to write so uniquely and powerfully. There are truths that ring through her words and they will resonate within you. If you don't read it for the thrilling story, read it for what it can teach you.

Torn by Jennifer Armentrout Review WITH SPOILERS

Torn by Jennifer Armentrout
Review WITH SPOILERS
5 out of 5 Stars

The feels.... The FEELS! Not only was this book really good (4.75 stars if you want to be specific), but there were like sucker punches of feels one right after another. I am very pleased to say that there was barely of that second book slump in Torn, and I loved returning to New Orleans and seeing the Order in action again. Jennifer Armentrout is a master at spinning stories with modern-day references and funny quips thrown into a dangerous situations. It was amazing. Truly. There good times and bad, funny times and sad ones, and it was all amazing.
SPOILERS

CHARACTERS:
Ivy: I was so proud of her when she told Ren that she was a halfling. In the first part of the book I had a sinking sensation that if she didn't tell him, then it would get really bad, really fast, when Ren did find out. She has gone through so much in this book. It is going to be interesting to see how this affects her in the last book.

Ren: REN!!!! You knew he was with the fae when he went missing. But it was a thousand times worse when Ivy is actually in the house and Ren was tied up to a wall with bites all over him. I don't blame him for being distracted with Ivy's news and being taken, and I think he is actually a really good guy for still loving Ivy and putting his job and life at risk in doing so.

Tink: Bomb drop of the book: he can be human sized! I adore Tink and how much he values his friendship with Ivy and how loyal he is to her. Plus he's hilarious.

Faye: I don't have much to say about her, but I hope she ends up all right in the last book. She was really nice and it took a lot of bravery to break Ivy out of the prince's house.

WORLD:
I want to go to New Orleans.... so badly. I'm not sure I would want to live there, but it is definitely a place that I want to visit. With the fae tie-in, Jennifer Armentrout has turned the city with another level of interesting. I really like the information that winter took over summer and that they are destroying worlds because it gets too cold. A part of me would go up to the prince and tell him that he is incredibly stupid. What did he think would happen when he broke the balance between summer and winter?

WRITING:
I really love the references to actual TV shows and things. She writes them in in funny ways and most of the time, I get them! There's something else about her writing too. She is just a really good story teller and the words blend together and you can see what's happening unfold behind your eyes.
If you have read Wicked, the first book in this series, you probably want to read Torn. I'm not entirely sure if you could NOT want to continue reading. If you're still hesitant about it, I highly encourage you to keep going and pick this one up. If you haven't read this series yet, feel free to do so. You will not be disappointed. Or read any of Jennifer Armentrout's books- they are all lovely and fun.

An Ember in the Ashes Review WITH SPOILERS

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir
Review WITH SPOILERS
5 out of 5 Stars

THIS WAS SUCH A GOOD BOOK!!!!!!!!! AND THERE'S GOING TO BE ANOTHER ONE!!!!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This book....... this book......phenomenal. It is bloody, and politically messy, and there's scheming and insurgence, and only a little bit of romance. I really appreciated that. The world is so wonderfully complex that if more romance had been added then it would have drawn away from the story line. It is a perfect balance.
SPOILERS

CHARACTERS:

27774758Elias: I like this guy.... he's not your normal hero of the story and his character develops astronomically in these short 400 some pages. He cares and learns for himself what is good and bad. He is already like this in a way from the beginning, but he expands on this and hopefully will bring revolutionary ideals into the government in the next (and last) book.

Laia: This girl is strong. To have gone through what she went through and to then become an inside slave of the compound and give information to the rebellion- that takes guts.

WRITING:
Sabaa Tahir has an amazing skill with a pen. The world that she has created in this book and series is an astonishing combination of grit and corruption with hope for a new kind of future and political system. It can be brutal at times, but she weaves into the world and doesn't back down from what the world she created is like.

This book is one of the best that I have read so far this year and I am really REALLY looking forward to the sequel that comes out in about a month, A Torch Against the Night

Empire of Storms by Sarah J Maas

I'm so excited for
Empire of Storms!!

28260587A few days ago, I posted a review of the series Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas, but I didn't add into that post my excitement for the next book in the series Empire of Storms. On September 6, Empire of Storms will be released and I may be charging the closest book store to get my hands on a copy. Actually, I'm going to make sure I'm going to the closest Target because they have a special edition of the book that I really want. This release is only 44 days away!!! I WANT IT NOW!!!! I may or may not have lose sleep over my excitement for this book, and according to Goodreads, it is going to be 704 pages long. YES!!!!!!! The more the better!!!!!

Really though, I have liked how the releases for the Throne of Glass books and the A Court of Thorns and Roses books (also by Sarah J Maas), are released in the autumn and spring, respectively. It gives me time to freak out and fangirl over one of the books, and then when I'm calm(ish) and have time and ability to think about other things, I start to miss the other series and begin to anticipate its release. A Court of Mist and Fury blew me away, but I miss the Terrasen court. I want to know what happens next. I want Rowan and Aelin to be together more so than they are now. >:) And also, I really just want another Sarah J Maas book. There are only a few writers were I will read their books simply for the fact that they are good at writing and I will enjoy that, even if I don't know what the plot is about. Sarah J Maas is one of these authors. AND THERE ARE ONLY 44 MORE DAYS TO WAIT!!!!!

I know people across the world are excited for this book to come out, so I biggest piece of advice for this is to read the Throne of Glass books. You will fall in love, get addicted to them, feel all the feels, and then nearly explode from anticipation for this book. It's the best thing ever.

The 100 by Kass Morgan Review WITH SPOILERS

The 100 by Kass Morgan Review
WITH SPOILERS3.5 stars out of 5

17332969I am not a huge sci-fy person, so that may be part of the reason why this review is only 3.5 stars out of 5. It was really well written and the is the first sort of book that I have personally read were there are people sent onto an abandoned Earth to see if it is life-sustaining. So for me, this was a really cool and different plot set up. It was good and I enjoyed it a lot, but like I said, this genre is hard for me to get into. BUT, if this is your sort of genre, I would definitely recommend it and even if it isn't your genre, I would still read it. I did and I enjoyed it.

SPOILERS

CHARACTERS/SHIPS:
I actually really liked how the characters interacted with each other and what their personalities were like.

Glass (and Luke): Glass's chapters were my favorites. They were the ones that I loved because she and Luke are absolutely adorable and their story together is heart-breaking. They are probably my favorite ship, but I think they're dead now... right? ***sad face***

Clarke: She seems like a pretty cool person. I think it's great how she had bad shit happen to her, but won't go right back to the guy who caused it. She sees how relationships can be toxic and is staying away. :)

Bellamy: He is definitely interesting and I love how protective he is with his sister. That is a show of good character and I hope that that protectiveness seeps into his relationship with Clarke. That being said....

Bellamy x Clarke: This is the other ship that I support in this book/series. I think they are good for each other and will help each other develop and adapt to how they need to be now that they are on Earth. Do they have a ship name? Clellamy? Belarke? ???

Wells: I don't really like him. I understand that he is doing what he things is best for Clarke, but that kind of obsession can turn bad really quickly and can be even worse for the people surrounding them. Example: Talia.

WRITING:
I actually listened to this as an audio book, but I really think it was smart that it was broken up into four points of view, specifically those our points of view. This way, you get views from three different people on Earth with all that is going on, and a POV from space and all that is going on there.

I hope you guys will like this book!! I did and I will be reading the next one at some point. :) I think I may watch the TV show from the CW too....

Throne of Glass Series (So Far) Review

Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J Maas
Review (Books 0-4) WITH SPOILERS
5 out of 5 Stars

ALL OF SARAH J MAAS'S BOOKS ARE AMAZING AND I RECOMMEND THEM TO EVERYBODY!!!! I'm not sure if there are really spoilery moments in this post, so let's assume there are spoilers everywhere so that you don't read this if you haven't read the books yet.

SPOILERS

16034235Throne of Glass
Throne of Glass is the first book in this series and is enough on its own to get you addicted to all of the characters and the plot line and holy chocolate all of the magic and fighting! I'm not even entirely sure what I can compare this book to... maybe a cross of the Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins) and Graceling (Kristin Cashore)? This is a poor explanation. The thing is, while Throne of Glass is great and captivating, the series doesn't die with book 1; it adapts and develops into this whirlwind that all ties back to some of the details presented in this book.

Crown of Midnight
17167166Just as amazing, this book will have you flipping pages non-stop until you reach the end. At that point, you will just go mad with wanting the next book. Of all of the books in the series so far though, I would have to say that Crown of Midnight is my least favorite of them all. It is still one of my favorite books that I have read in general, but compared to the rest of the series, it isn't up as high. So many new details and sassy moments are revealed to the reader in this second book of the series, and by the end of it, you're just left waiting for this giant bomb to fall in the plot line and you know that no matter how much you prepare for it, it will knock you on your butt when it comes.

20613470Heir of Fire
ROWAN!!!!! ROWAN IS THE BEST! I loved him from the moment that he found Celaena and they almost killed each other..... ah.... true love. But seriously, this book is the setup for one of my favorite ships of all time and I am rooting for them to be endgame. Now, about the book. Besides introducing a bunch of new badass characters, Heir of Fire had a lot of s*** go down in it. We have witches, we have Wyrdkeys, we have collars and rings, and we have SUCH IMMENSE character development. Aelin is different, so much more different than she was in Throne of Glass. For as strong and as badass as she was in the other two books, she becomes even stronger and more badass in this book because she accpets a part of herself that she has always been afraid of, so in a way, she now truly accepts who she is and what she is.  An amazing book.

Queen of Shadows
18006496 I died. In the best way possible of course. But Queen of Shadows took my heart and soul and hid them somewhere in the midst of its spine and pages and I have yet to claw myself way from the book because IT WAS SO GOOD. SO. MUCH. HAPPENED in this book that my head was spinning. There were moments when I was crying, rolling on the floor with laughter, hated some characters with a burning passion, and was proud of others and wanted to give them awards. At one point, I even threw the book because Arobyn is a little punk and pain. Of all of the books in the series so far, I love this one the most. I know its bad to pick favorites, but we all know that it happens. I'm just not denying it. Queen of Shadows is my favorite..... for now....

Assassin's Blade
This books is from before Throne of Glass. We get to see Celaena in all of her assassin ways with the Guild, working with Sam (I really hope he's not dead, but I think he is), and being sassy as hell getting in trouble. My favorite part of this book was The Assassin and the Desert I loved the relationship that she formed with Ilias and I really hope he gets tied into either Empire of Storms or book 6. This book was like a throwback to Throne of Glass. I read it after QoS, but I think you can read it at any time in the series.

SHIPS!!!
Like I previously said, I'm pretty sure Rowaelin is endgame, but I'm going to explain why:
Dorian loves Aelin as Lilian
Chaol loves Aelin as Celaena
Rowan loves Aelin as AELIN
ALL OTHER SHIPS ARE DEAD!!!
There are other ships in the series too...
Aedion and Lysandra
Manon and Dorian (I actually really support this one)
Chaol and Nesryn

I think I'm going to make a follow-up post to me just spazing and hypothesizing about Empire of Storms, the fifth book in the series that comes out September 6, this year.

Thanks for reading!!

Glass Sword Review WITH SPOILERS

Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard Review
WITH SPOILERS
5 out of 5 Stars
23174274
Sequels can be scary.... not as good as the first one, no real action in the plot, seems like a giant filler book..... NOT THIS ONE. Glass Sword was phenomenal. Definitely one of the best sequels -actually one of the best books- that I have read so far this year. This may sound extreme, because it is, but towards the end of the book my reactions were so strong that I sobbed for about thirty minutes and shortly afterwords something else happened and I threw up. Like I said, very dramatic, very emotional, VERY extreme. Which is odd, because I normally don't have very strong reactions. Victoria Aveyard's writing was that good, and that compelling.

SPOILERS

CHARACTERS:
Shade: I fell in love with Shade Barrow in this book. I had read the novella book Cruel Crown before this, and I liked Shade in that book. He was interesting, funny, clever, and I knew him from the end of Red Queen. But in Glass Sword his character is brought out more and developed so much further. We got to see him protective, as an older brother, and as a boyfriend. And then he died.... and I was sobbing... and my brother thought I was crazy. :)

Farley: Without a doubt, Farley is one of the strongest female characters that I had ever read. Most of the girls in this book are. I loved FarleyxShade, and I am actually pretty sure that Farley is pregnant. And that kills me because they won't have a father growing up.

Cal: Cal confuses me... he was not my ship in Red Queen (for the most part), and he was slightly annoying at times in this book. I do like how he stepped up at times though to take care of Mare and assume an active role in the rebellion and Scarlet Guard.

Maven: He is the reason I threw up. His words and actions were just so revolting and perfectly evil that I couldn't help myself. To be more specific, I threw up when he put a F***ING COLLAR ON HER. Maven! What the hell?! I had hope that you were being brainwashed my your mom! But this, along with the fact the he was keeping his mom practically prisoner, makes me reluctantly believe that it was all Maven, and I still really really don't want him to be evil.

Mare: Holy complicated, realistic, and complex character. Because of the realistic development of Mare's character, she is one of my favorites. I know some people were annoyed by her actions and responses in the book, but let's be practical. She just came from a high-stress hellish experience. PTSD is to be expected and Mare was supremely strong in her position. I applaud Victoria for writing Mare as she did. The only other concern that I have for this character is that she is going to go dark.... because for as much as Mare has been fighting for the Scarlet Guard, I could also see her teaming up with Maven to fight the Lakelanders and the other ones(idk their name?).

WORLD:
Just like her characters, Victoria Aveyard has created an intensely complex world that is a very nice blend of magical elements, political scheming, and potential outside forces coming in. The biggest thought I have about it right now is about the visitors that Mare had towards the end of the book from the other country. It's killing me that I can't remember their name right now, but with that visit, Mare brings up that there is a very fine edge to walk on when fixing the corrupt so that you don't become the next corrupt along the way. This, tied into what happens at the end... I have a very strange theory about how this story is going to play out.

For the entire book, we have no clue what Maven is really up to. We don't know about his POV, his thoughts, what he knows, nothing. What if he knows about the other external threats? Is trying to take care of it himself? What if he is putting up a front to maintain a level of surprise? I may be grasping for straws here because I still don't want Maven to be bad, but he id definitely smart enough to put on a show like this. Capturing Mare? Part inner psycho, part strategy to make sure that he has someone with New Red blood and a sharp mind to confide in reliably. An inner eye and ear to speak of about Scarlet Guard. And Mare ultimately wants what is best for the land, which is equality. So if she believes that Maven is the most level-headed unbiased choice out of all of them, she may begin to help him to prevent a power reversal of red and silver blood and instead implant a new political system of equality. This is very confusing, but I hope that it also makes sense once you think about it some more.

WRITING:
Amazing. Simply amazing.

I have big hopes for this series, so I would HIGHLY recommend picking them up now and starting them while they're still (somewhat) unknown. I use that term very loosely, because they are bestselling novels and almost everybody in the book world has heard of them. The first book is Red Queen and just like this book, it is amazing and beautifully written.

Thanks for reading!
