Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrios
Book Review
This book was like nothing I have ever read before. It is one of those books where you start reading it, and without even realizing, hours have passed and hundreds of pages have been read. It isn't like other YA books that are out today, mostly I think because while the romance was certainly there, it didn't consume the entire plot line. I'm not complaining about the books that do- love those- I just appreciate the change of pace.
One of the things that I loved about Exquisite Captive was that all of the characters were incredibly strong, even the minor background characters. Nalia is definitely an inspiration and there were times that I wanted to strangle her for the things she thought or said, but overall how she has overcome so many obstacles and still does is an inspiration I hope to apply in my own life. All of the characters in general just seem to have flourished despite their hardships and they compliment each other immensely.
The whole jinni thing is unique too in this genre where there are so many other things that have taken over the YA world. That may just apply to only the books that I've read, but eh. Not gonna lie, it took me awhile to realize the jinni and bottle thing.... even though it says jinni.... *hits self over the head*. I definitely recommend this to everybody. It's thrilling and leaves you on the edge of your seat and anxious to know what's going to happen next.
